Fantasy fans know Brandon Sanderson in part for his epic sized novels. Well known for his work on Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, his own series are popular in their own right. He's written the Mistborn trilogy and the massive Stormlight Archive books, as well as the YA Reckoners series and more.
Now, Sanderson has something else big in the works: A massive multi-film deal for the rights to his Cosmere Universe! Many of Sanderson's more casual readers might not realize that much of his work, including his Stormlight and Mistborn series, are all set in the same story universe. This is one reason readers won't want to miss his upcoming book Arcanum Unbounded, out on November 22nd. This book will make some of the connections between the series a bit more clear.
The first book that will have attention on the big screen will be The Way of Kings, which has been fast-tracked for adaptation. Screenwriters Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan (Saw) have been assigned to begin writing the film.
If readers are new to Brandon Sanderson's work, both the Mistborn trilogy and the Stormlight Archive books have received a lot of praise, and the Mistborn books have recently been repackaged for YA readers as well. And you might just have time to read the epic works before the movies come out!
