Holy cow, Idris Elba OWNS character Roland Deschain.
That was my first thought upon seeing the trailer for The Dark Tower, based on the western/fantasy by Stephen King, for the first time this morning.
This trailer does everything a trailer should. It shows us action and adventure, a tone for the film. and it immediately grabs our attention with emotion and tension. Elba's voice alone sells the film.
Some of the lines in the trailer, like "...I kill with my heart" could easily fall flat and sound cliche coming from anyone with less than stellar acting talent, but Elba manages to pull it off. McConaughey is a very convincing villain here, no matter what your thoughts are of him otherwise (I mean, I'll be honest, he's not my favorite actor, but damn, he definitely brings a presence to the trailer). The music and effects seem to be spot on, and the cinematography seems to match the story very well. We can even see a hint of humor in the trailer, so hopefully they manage to capture the great balance of Stephen King's work.
So what do you guys think? Are you ready?
