Congratulations are in order for Once and Future Podcast guest Christopher Golden! He is co-writing the new Hellboy reboot, along with the comic book creator Mike Mignola and Andrew Cosby.
The working title of the movie is Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, and while details are being kept secret for now, the creators are saying that the new film will take on more of a horror movie flavor than its predecessors. Co-writer Andrew Cosby stated:
“I can’t really talk about specifics with regard to the story, which they’re keeping a pretty tight lid on at the moment. But I can say that this is a darker, more gruesome version of Hellboy. Neil said from the very beginning that he wanted to walk a razor’s edge between horror and comic book movie, which was music to my ears, because that’s what I was shooting for in the script, and precisely what Mignola does so well with the comics.”
The reboot will be made without Ron Perlman or Guillermo del Toro, and there is no release date for the new film yet. Rumor has it that Stranger Things star David Harbour is in talks to play the big red lead character, but nothing is set in stone yet. Never fear, however--as soon as new details are available, we will share them here!
