I was so happy to see the reception of the Art MacGyver Challenge! There was some awesome art posted to our Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as sent to me via private message. And there were plenty of people who said they made art but didn't want to share it, and that's fine, too!
This week, we have four tools for our challenge. And remember, replacements are fine. If I'm using acrylic paint, and you only have watercolor, feel free to use that instead. If I'm using a colored pencil, but all you have on hand is a crayon, use that. The important thing is to challenge yourself with only a couple items AND to have fun.
So, this week's tools:
1. Broad-tipped paint marker. I'm using the Liquitex Paint Marker in Cadmium Red Medium. You can use whatever color you want!
2. Fine-tipped paint marker. For me, it's the Uni Posca in Violet.
3. Harder leaded colored pencil. I have the Tombow Irojiten Colored Pencil in CI-V07 (medium blue)
4. Softer leaded colored pencil. I'm using the KOH-i-Noor Woodless colored pencil in Hooker's Green.
I used these materials to make the banner for this week. Experiment a little with them and see what effects you can accomplish. Try layering the pencils, or using the pencils over the paint. It doesn't have to be pretty or socially acceptable. Feeling angry or frustrated? Let it out. Scribble on that paper and see what happens when you add more materials. Try drawing without any plan at all, and just see what comes out.
I can't wait to see what you guys make this week!
If you want, you can post your creations to social media, tagging us and using #ArtMacGyver. Or you can even just say, "Hey, I made something for the #ArtMacGyver Challenge!" Your art is for you alone, and it's up to you if you want to share it! But don't be afraid to share your stuff--I'll be on alert for any negativity going on in these channels.
Once a month, I'll be picking one person who posted their work or who commented on social media about #ArtMacGyver to win an Art MacGyver kit containing 4-5 tools to make your very own project! So spread the word!
