This morning, the new, final trailer for Star Wars: Rogue One premiered on Good Morning America, and at least for this fangirl, it was everything I'd been waiting for. Why?
Well, it's not that the other trailer or the teasers weren't exciting. They definitely were. We were seeing a new aspect of the Star Wars world, a new perspective. There was no Jar Jar. Yet there were characters we could recognized mixed in with the new faces. I mean, we already know what's going to happen in the big picture, so the trailers left us with curiosity. What's going to happen, how are they going to pull this story off? They did their job. They piqued our interest and they did so in a satisfying way.
THIS trailer, though. This is where it gets personal. We learn more about the motivations behind WHY this new rebel would want to help, we see some conflict and some stakes. And once the main character has a really solid reason for doing what she's doing, for being involved, something people can sympathize with, then chances are the audience will want to be involved as well. Once things get personal, audiences become invested.
And that score...
Well, see for yourself! What do you think?
